Solvent extraction of arsenic(V) with dispersed ultrafine magnetite particles.
The solvent extraction of arsenic(V) was investigated using heptane containing ultrafine magnetite particles and hydrophobic ammonium salt. Arsenic(V) was favorably extracted from aqueous solutions of pH ranging over 2-7, where the distribution ratio (10(3)) was independent of the pH. Although the addition of alkyl ammonium salt improved the phase separation, no notable influence was observed o...
متن کاملMagnetite to Maghemite Transformation in Ultrafine Particles
The conversion of magnetite to maghemite has been studied kinetically in the ultrafine particle range (77-220A) by chemical analysis. X-ray diffraction, and Mossbauer measurements. The reaction is third order. The activation temperatures are relatively low (8 250-1 1 200 K). Electron hopping in ultrafine magnetite powders is discussed on the basis of the results.

Ultrafine particles (UFPs; diameter less than 100 nm) are ubiquitous in urban air, and an acknowledged risk to human health. Globally, the major source for urban outdoor UFP concentrations is motor traffic. Ongoing trends towards urbanisation and expansion of road traffic are anticipated to further increase population exposure to UFPs. Numerous experimental studies have characterised UFPs in in...
متن کاملOrganic modification of ultrafine particles using carbon dioxide as the solvent
An organic modification of the surface of titanium dioxide particles precoated with SiO2 and Al2O3 films in a CO2 medium is performed, where CO2 of different phases is used as the solvent and a titanate coupling reagent (CH3)2CHOTi(OP(O)(OH)OP(O)(OC8H17)2)3 is the modification reagent. The results are compared with the modification carried out in a conventional organic solvent. The interaction ...
متن کاملCommentary: inflamed about ultrafine particles?
Ambient air pollution has been linked to exacerbation of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. 1 These associations have been strikingly robust and range from the observation of coronary heart disease exacerbation within hours of exposure to an increased risk of ischaemic heart disease mortality for subjects chronically exposed to elevated concentrations of ambient particles. Two main...
